The List: Best Electric Skateboards, According to Experts

1. Backfire

The most highly recommended electric skateboard in the industry is by BackFire. But there are a few different models that experts like. “With snazzy purple ambient lighting, people are sure to see you coming on the Backfire Zealot S. They’ll need to look quick though, because you’ll be zooming past and coasting smoothly up hills with those two 850-Watt belt-driven motors. While this electric longboard is sure to make life easier, it might be hard on your wallet. The Zealot S has a bit of a price tag attached, probably due in part to its super powerful motors. As one reviewer noted, the cost of the board feels justified by the recent increase in gas prices,” writes USA Today.

Riding an electric skateboard is the coolest way to beat traffic and sail past those poor folks stuck in their cars. Another model by this brand is the Era 2. “If you are looking for a portable electric longboard as a last-mile solution, or want an electric longboard that is very light and portable, the Backfire Era 2 will be your best pick,” shares Electric Skateboard HQ. “The board isn’t trying to do too much, it has merely decent range and decent power. The Backfire Era 2 sets itself apart for its sleek and stealth design, having the electronics integrated inside its carbon fiber deck.”

The Backfire electric skateboard is your magic carpet for the modern era. “If you’re in search of an electric skateboard that hits the sweet spot between affordability and performance, the Backfire G2 should be at the top of your list. This little guy is powerful on flat ground: It cruises at a decent top speed—and could boost off to the front of the pack if it was a race thanks to its rapid acceleration. Although the G2 moves fast, it doesn’t have the rest of the bells and whistles found on more expensive models. There’s no regenerative braking, so the range is relatively low, and the wide deck is a bit clunky to maneuver. But for around $400? You won’t find many boards better than this one,” advises Forbes.

2. Meepo

When you're ready for your voyage through the concrete jungle, Meepo has the perfect electric skateboards for you. “Have a long commute or just want to cruise around for hours without draining the battery? The Meepo Hurricane is built to cover serious distances with an impressive 44-mile range. Most top out around 20 miles, save for the Exway Atlas Pro which can go over 100 with a pricey auxiliary battery pack,” shares Forbes.

When you're riding the Meepo, you're not just skating; you're flying on wheels. “Meepo Voyager X is the most powerful street-wheel longboard on the market right now. It has specs that are beefier than some all-terrain boards while keeping it all in a compact regular electric longboard form. Plus, 30 miles of range with a 40 mph top speed is crazy even for an all-terrain board! Meepo Voyager X is designed for aggressive riders searching for that adrenaline rush. A stiffer deck and a truck that tunes more toward stability allow it to be very stable at high speed. With that said, however, if what you want is a relaxing ride, or you really want to maximize the fun in carving, Meepo Voyager X is not the board for you,” advises Electric Skateboard HQ

Imagine the joy you will feel riding your Meepo with the wind in your hair and a grin on your face. “The crew from Meepo Board have spent many years developing and refining their products and the result is a relatively affordable yet still very powerful electric skateboard. As soon as you step onto the Meepo Voyager for the first time and take it for a spin, you’ll instantly be hooked,” notes ESkate Hub.

3. Evolve

Another great place to get a new electric ride is from Evolve. “The Evolve Bamboo editions are the bestselling models along with their all new GTR Series electric longboard models, taking over from the Series 1's. However, the new Hadean Series are monsters. Evolve’s newest release, the Hadean board features an awesome dual 3000W motor, with immense range and incredible new features. Visit the Evolve collection for the best of the best!” raves Electric Boarding Co.

You're going to love living in the future, where sidewalks become racetracks. “The Evolve Hadean Bamboo Street electric skateboard is a top-tier product that offers a blend of speed, power, and range, making it the best electric skateboard overall,” declares ESkate Hub. “The deck, made from 3-ply bamboo and 2-ply fibreglass, provides a perfect balance of flexibility and durability. It has a traditional-styled bamboo deck modernised by feet-locking dropdowns and a ‘W’ concave, so you always feel confident on the board. It has front and rear LED lights incorporated in the battery case and offer user-customizable control via the remote and the new Evolve app, including Smart Brake Lights,” notes ESkate Hub.

Do you want to feel like you've got wings, even if you're a skating beginner? “Evolve’s premium electric skateboards offer that endless carving sensation snowboarders, surfers and all board riders seek...The removable battery is travel friendly, and the board has smooth, regenerative brakes which recharge your batteries when you need to come to a stop. While this board is best for riders who want an electric option, it’s customizable enough for beginners, too,” Forbes comments.

4. WowGo

Our expert reviewers love WowGo builds across the board. One of their miniature models peaked Forbes' interest. “Electric skateboards can be heavy and annoying to lug around, especially if you’re used to a traditional board. So for people pressed for space or that just want extra maneuverability, that’s where mini e-skateboards come in. And at around 17 pounds, this compact board from WowGo is one of the lightest we’ve seen. You can easily grab and go whether you’re bringing it on the subway or carrying it up a flight up stairs. Thanks to its weight, the WowGo Mini 2S is fun and sporty, and it has a concave deck where you feet can nestle in and feel grounded with every turn. The board comes with built-in shock absorbers and 90-millimeter polyurethane wheels, but you can substitute 105-millimeter cloud wheels if you want a cushier ride on rough surfaces,” shares Forbes.

Focus on the road, not your safety. That is a promise with WowGo. “Being WowGo’s most powerful electric skateboard in their lineup, the WowGo AT2 Plus isn’t for everyone,” adds ESkate Hub. “But if it’s off road riding you want to do, then this is the eBoard for you. The deck shape guides your feet into place and locks them in so you can focus on the trail ahead rather than needing to look down constantly to make sure your feet haven’t slipped. The huge wheels, the flexy deck and the shock-absorbing grip tape all work together to provide you with a seriously comfortable ride, so you can ride all day without fatiguing. You also have the option to get the 2-in-1 combo which includes a set of 120mm Cloudwheels, which turns it into more of a city-commuter type eboard with a little more acceleration power and extended range.”

When you're ready to really travel some distance, a WowGo is for you. “We've had the WOWGO Electric Skateboard for a few weeks now, and we're really impressed with its overall performance,” Board Blazers raves. “The board is easy to master, even for beginners, and the powerful motors make it a lot of fun to ride. The long range of the battery is also a huge plus, as it allows us to go on longer rides without worrying about running out of power. One thing we did notice is that the deck of the board has a bit of flex, which might not be ideal for heavier riders. This can make the board feel a bit unstable at times, especially when going at high speeds.”

5. Exway

Last but not least on our list is the Exway. “Not just any electric skateboard can tackle tough roads and trails—you’ll need a board with both adequate power, maneuverability and treaded tires if you want to go off-roading. And as one of the most capable skateboards around, the Exway Atlas Pro does not disappoint, but it comes at the cost of price and weight. For those willing to spend the money, the Atlas Pro is a powerful machine with high-tech features,” writes Forbes.

You're not just a rider; you're a trendsetter. All eyes will be on you as you zoom past. “We were impressed with the EXWAY Wave‘s performance and design. The smaller size and weight make it easy to carry around, and the kicktail design adds to its agility. The Quick-Swap Battery Modules are a convenient feature that allows you to easily swap out batteries for extended rides. The Hassle-Free Lighting with ESC 2.0 is also a nice touch, as it eliminates the need for separate lights and makes it easy to turn them on and off,” raves Board Blazers.

“Exway is one of the best eSkate companies in the industry and they have an electric skateboard to suit everyone’s needs! The Exway Flex Pro is arguably one of the best commuter electric skateboards available today. It has a flexy concave deck with raised shoulders to sit your feet on to give you exceptional control. Additionally, the foam grip tape on top of the deck absorbs a lot of vibrations from the road to make your ride even more comfortable,” adds ESkate Hub.

I'm so happy that this list includes Pit Bull Terriers. I adopted one 9 years ago, and he loves every human being, and indeed everyone of every species. I also volunteer often at Best Friends, a huge no-kill shelter than generally has over 400 adoptable dogs, and a great many are Pittie mixes. These dogs love people ❤️
