Harnham Stonehenge

HARNHAM, United Kingdom — The mysteries of Stonehenge may be the tip of the archaeological iceberg in this region of the United Kingdom. Researchers have made another remarkable discovery just miles from the world-famous site.

While preparing for a new housing development in Harnham, just eight miles south of Stonehenge, workers unearthed items that may date all the way back to 10,000 BC. The findings include ancient pottery, knives, and even red deer antler, which was often used for making tools and weapons in prehistoric times, according to archaeologists.

Cotswold Archaeology partnered with Vistry Group, the property developers, on this excavation project.

“The abundance of water has inevitably attracted human occupation from the Mesolithic onwards (10,000 BC – 4000 BC), which has led to some interesting findings,” says Richard Greatorex, principal fieldwork manager at Cotswold Archaeology, in a statement.

Among the most intriguing discoveries are five Bronze Age barrows — ancient burial mounds — dating from around 2400 BC to 700 BC. Archaeologists also found 10 burials and numerous pits and postholes from the Neolithic and Late Bronze Age. These pits and postholes seem to suggest that this area was used for agriculture long ago.

“The site has uncovered some brilliant archaeology and has been an amazing opportunity for our archaeologists to excavate and better understand how this area fits into a wider landscape of settlement,” adds Steve Bush, Cotswold Archaeology's onsite project leader.

Another point of interest is the discovery of Iron Age lynchets — terraced land created by ancient farming methods — as well as Anglo-Saxon pottery and knives that could shed light on life in that period.

The artifacts are currently undergoing further analysis. They will eventually be donated to Salisbury Museum, ensuring that they are accessible to the public for years to come.

“It has been fascinating to see what has been discovered in Harnham, as it enables us to understand the land and our heritage better as a result,” says Emma Colin, Vistry Western’s managing director.

I remember a time when we use to carbon date and intellectually research findings long before we started publicly theorizing to news outlets..

  4. Eric says:

What rubbish, to say something dates back 10,000 BC cannot be proven, what Court would ever allow this item into evidence on that basis.

    1. Aurélio says:

There's something called carbon14 😐😬😐😬, bu I also thing this is a lie to increase the lands value, those triggers😡😡😡😡

Carbon dating is how it's done look it up

  5. Chris says:

The earth is not even that old. Fake news. 10,000 bc is not to be used together. BC means before christ. You can't believe in christ and belive this.

The Earth is 4 billion years old Einstein.

Jesus “Christ” never existed, the church is the enemy, being old white men in robes. Square white collar, anyone?

    5. Ric says:

Exactly, Jesus is the only truth worth knowing, everything else that contradicts his word is fake, this carbon dating is false and set up by the free mason's for their father's will the devil, to continue to lead mankind astray.

  6. Peter Adamis says:

There were no Anglo Saxons living 10,000 BC. The author needs to be careful about writing who the inhabitants were. For all we know, they may have been the early hominid hunter gatherers.

    1. Aurélio says:

How do you know all that?

  7. Michael Larimer says:

I find all this stuff really fascinating I enjoyed reading about it it's really needs the gas money and stuff to keep it coming already

  9. Scott says:

Hhmmm new housing within 8 miles? Is there other housing in area? Interesting, does discovery stop that then?

    1. Aidan says:

No, it won't stop the development, or at least, it's highly unlikely and yes there is other housing around the site. That said, without the commercially led archaeology we may not have uncovered these finds in the first place.
It is a really controversial issue here. I would guess that more than half of UK archaeology is driven by commercial activity now!
Heigh ho, a brave new world!

  12. WelshLeek says:

THIS is why that stupid underground road plan shouldn't go ahead! It could destroy artefacts like these which could make our ancient culture greater. The people who drew up the plans don't care for their own history at all... All of the land around Stonehenge should be a part of the site, and therefore cannot be touched!

  13. Jeff Sanders says:

I find many articles referencing ancient finds back as far as 350,000 years old which saddens me as God our creator carefully has documented that Earth and all that is in it is only 6000 years old. Check it out in His word.God cannot lie. Just think about the value of these discoveries if only shared in the light we have been given instead of the darkness of evolution deception. God help us.

    1. Gman102 says:

You do know that God didn't write the Bible, right?

  14. WJJY Red Deer says:

I don't believe anything that old anymore. The earth is experiencing unending unimaginable attacks on all of life as sheer begrudging grinchinese damning it and everything once of it in order to toy with history as well as outer space. If we don't grow up socially so to speak, this ordinary charade will have us all exploring any mime's box. Any astronomical number of true activities could have weighed on the One mind by now.

who Cares about what they eat or shat 12000 years ago? The world cannot stop for this! They're dead they don't give a damn about us

  17. Ever says:

But Adam and Eve only goes back 6000 years. Hummmm

    1. Gman102 says:

On one side: we have science, carbon14 dating, and physical evidence that our world and solar system are around 6 billion years old... On the other side: a book written 2,000 years ago by a handful of Jewish poets that is essentially a fanfiction of various stories and mythology of the time.
You know you can belive in God, and still understand that the Bible isn't accurate with how long the world has been around and it doesn't have to conflict with your understanding that the word of God is infallible because there could be other reasons it concludes an inaccurate date such as translation issues from Greek to Latin or the fact it could be metaphorical or some other hidden code we cannot yet decipher in the understanding of the ancient text that's been translated like a game of telephone and still contains inaccurate info from monks in 1200AD that hasn't been corrected...

  18. Phil Drifter says:

This article is a false flag like 9/11. Headline gets PPL all excited, article mentions a single deer antler, page stuffed with ads, article entirely too short.

Get this mislead1n9 article off my 1ntern3t.

  19. Hot says:

More interesting is the fact the layout of Stonehenge resembles ancient egyptian hieroglyphics for “Atum”, which likely became the modern word “Atom” through the Ancient Greeks who borrowed it from the Egyptians, and that the cymatic impression of the word “Atum” or “Aum” on water or sand creates a similar circle with a dot in the middle. Assuming the Ancient Gaelics had a common origin or at least influence as the Egyptians from Atlantis, it is likely that additional excavations may find much more advanced tools that may look primitive to us but likely exploited loopholes in quantum geometry to enable effects such as antigravity similar to what Viktor Grebbenikov claimed to have discovered. The book Atlantis and its Fate In The Postdiluvian World also hints at the Gaelic myths of the Tuathe de Danann as survivors of Atlantis that made their way to Ireland and Scotland around 10,000 BCE, especially the Orkney Islands that have a high percentage of the X2 genetic haplogroup shared only with certain members in Egypt, the Druze of Israel and Native North Americans, and they, most likely through their influence on the Druids, could be examined for the truth as to how Stonehenge was really constructed (using a similar method for the pyramids).

    1. Jan says:

Thank you for the only factual, mature, informative comment on this whole thread. Anybody that believes that there was human type life on this planet, for only 6000 years is brainwashed, ignoring all the physical and common sense facts.

  20. Mike says:

Just think. These so called ologists are no better than Burke and Hare digging up dead people.
Would you want some oike digging you up ?

    1. Gman102 says:

Honestly, I would only want to be undisturbed for the first 500 years or so. Past that I think I would be bored and there's something really neat about the thought that in 2,000+ years someone could find my body (with things like a perfectly preserved gameboy color with a pokemon blue cartridge still inside) and speculate about my life and time I lived. That would make me totally ok to have people think im interesting again after all those years.
